In descending order of accuracy, Cameron James Cope is an image conjurer, purveyor of word stimulants, travel fiend and cat burglar. His ascending order of professional priorities includes presenting on photography, writing and photographing editorial features, and maintaining his art practice.
In his art projects and series, Cameron is particularly concerned with exploring contemporary legacies of the colonial past – and is informed by his background in history, geography, and journalism. He defines his work as conceptual documentary, and in it purposefully balances medium and message.
Cameron’s documentary work is held in the permanent collection of the Melbourne Museum, and in 2014 he was awarded Travel Photographer of the Year by the Australian Society of Travel Writers.
